New year, stronger you, better gardener? This is my journey from a mentally ill, physically weak, very overweight and beleaguered 40-something, to a happy and contented, fit and strong 50-something.
This is awesome Elliot! Well done you! I’m where you were and I have to change. As well as pain, I have carpal tunnel in both wrists and chronic fatigue. BUT I’ve made the decision that I have to do something. Anything is better than this and at 53 I can’t wait anymore. So I went to the gym today. It was awful but I will take it one day at a time and if I have an energy deficit I will rest. We shall see. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much Sophie. That’s very kind. Very much appreciated too! Yes, it’s startling when you realise NOW is the moment. I just felt ready. That it was time to seize the opportunity. You have all my sympathies for the pain and fatigue. I hope it’s the antidote to remedy that. You’ll know far better than me to take it slow. Even if you feel like you’re not actually doing anything physically demanding. Just turn up and you’re halfway there. I found it incredible just how little I did at first and what a huge improvement it made. The caveat is that I really enjoy it now. Getting strong is far more engaging than ‘getting fit’ which is terribly arbitrary. I enjoy the physical challenge, setting my goal to be better each week and the far more satisfying exhaustion. I hope it ‘clicks’ for you the way it did for me and very best wishes for your new journey 💚 Ps Always here if you need me.
Thanks for sharing Elliot. A very honest and inspiring post. I for one definitely need to get back to the gym, and you're right, it's good for you physically and mentally.
