Another great article, I'm also a great believer in leaf mould and have two wire bins just for leaves!

Leaves are best added straight to beds (not the indoor ones) and borders. Maybe mown off the lawns.

Well I did say that I always leave the fallen leaves on the borders for soil life and cover. But I wasn’t aware that how my post came across. It was more of a celebration of autumn leaves if you have trees and shrubs.

Perhaps. But new gardeners read things like this and think they must do them.

And it is better for the soil to have the leaves there, on the beds and borders, when they fall - and it spreads them better, making sure you can mulch the lot.

Especially if you then cut and leave the herbaceous material sometime before April.
